Horizon College of Engineering

The Electrical Engineering Department at Horizon College regularly organizes a variety of events and activities aimed at enhancing the learning experience of students and encouraging them to engage with the latest advancements in electrical engineering. Upcoming Events:

1. International Workshop on Smart Grids and Renewable Energy

  • Date: May 10th – 12th, 2025
  • Venue: Horizon College of Engineering
  • Description: This workshop will focus on the latest trends and technologies in smart grids and renewable energy systems. Experts from industry and academia will present their insights into smart grid integration, energy management, and sustainable power solutions.
  • Keynote Speakers: Industry leaders in renewable energy, smart grid technologies, and power systems.
  • Target Audience: Students, researchers, and professionals interested in renewable energy and power systems.

2. Electrical Engineering Hackathon 2025

  • Date: June 15th – 17th, 2025
  • Venue: Horizon College of Engineering
  • Description: A 3-day hackathon designed for students to innovate and develop solutions to real-world electrical engineering challenges. Participants will form teams to solve problems in automation, power systems, and electronics.
  • Judging Criteria: Creativity, technical knowledge, and presentation.
  • Prizes: Cash prizes, internships with leading companies, and recognition certificates.

3. Industrial Visit to Tata Power

  • Date: July 5th, 2025
  • Venue: Tata Power, Kolkata
  • Description: Students will get an opportunity to visit Tata Power’s power generation and distribution plants. The visit aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the power generation process, including both traditional and renewable sources, and the technologies used in grid management.
  • Target Audience: Final year Electrical Engineering students.

1. National Seminar on Advances in Power Electronics

  • Date: March 20th – 22nd, 2025
  • Highlights:
    • The seminar covered emerging trends in power electronics, with sessions on new semiconductor devices, power converters, and renewable energy integration.
    • Renowned speakers from top research institutes and industries presented papers on the latest developments.
    • Students participated in a technical paper competition and received certificates.

2. Guest Lecture on “IoT and its Applications in Electrical Engineering”

  • Date: February 10th, 2025
  • Speaker: Dr. Ramesh Kumar, Senior Engineer at Siemens
  • Highlights:
    • Dr. Kumar shared his insights on the role of IoT in revolutionizing electrical engineering applications such as energy management, automation, and predictive maintenance.
    • Students engaged in a Q&A session, discussing future career prospects in IoT and smart grids.

3. Workshop on PLC Programming and Industrial Automation

  • Date: January 15th – 16th, 2025
  • Description: This hands-on workshop provided students with practical knowledge of programming and configuring Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) used in industrial automation.
    • Students learned the basics of PLC programming languages, interfacing with sensors and actuators, and designing automated systems for real-world applications.

News Highlights:

1. Horizon College Students Win 1st Place at National Robotics Competition

  • Date: March 2025
  • Details: A team of final-year Electrical Engineering students from Horizon College won first place in the National Robotics Competition 2025, organized by IIT Delhi. Their project focused on developing a fully automated robot for industrial applications.
  • Prize: The team received a trophy, internship offers from top robotics companies, and the opportunity to present their work at international robotics conferences.

2. Faculty Achievements:

  • Dr. Anjali Saha, Associate Professor, was awarded the Best Researcher of the Year 2025 by the Indian Electrical Engineers Association (IEEA) for her groundbreaking work in smart grid technologies and renewable energy integration.
  • Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Professor, delivered an invited talk at the International Conference on Electrical Engineering 2025 in Berlin, Germany, discussing the future of power system optimization and automation.

3. Student Research Paper Published in IEEE Transactions

  • Details: A research paper by our 3rd-year students, “Optimization of Power Distribution Networks using Machine Learning”, was published in the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems in February 2025. The paper was co-authored by Dr. Ramesh Joshi (Department Faculty) and provides a novel approach to energy distribution network optimization using artificial intelligence.
  • Recognition: This paper has been cited in multiple international journals and is gaining attention from leading power system research organizations.
