At Horizon College of Engineering, we view Research & Development (R&D) as a cornerstone of academic excellence and societal advancement. Our R&D Policy outlines a structured approach to promote, support, and manage research activities across all departments, fostering a culture of curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world problem solving.
This policy ensures that the institution contributes meaningfully to the scientific, technological, and socio-economic development of the nation.
Objectives of the R&D Policy:
- To cultivate a research-driven academic environment among faculty, students, and staff
- To facilitate interdisciplinary and collaborative research with industry, academia, and government bodies
- To encourage innovation, publications, patents, and the commercialization of research outputs
- To support faculty and students in securing research funding and grants
- To align institutional research goals with national missions and global standards
Scope of the Policy:
- Research in core engineering, applied sciences, humanities, and interdisciplinary domains
- Faculty-led, student-led, and collaborative research projects
- Sponsored research and consultancy
- Intellectual property development (patents, copyrights, etc.)
- Funded projects under government and private bodies (AICTE, DST, MSME, DRDO, etc.)
Research Support Framework:
- R&D Committee:
- A dedicated committee to evaluate proposals, monitor progress, and review outcomes
- Includes research coordinators from each department
- Seed Funding & Incentives:
- Institutional financial support for pilot projects, prototype development, and travel grants
- Incentives for publications in indexed journals and for patents filed/granted
- Infrastructure & Resources:
- Access to well-equipped laboratories, library resources, software tools, and internet facilities
- Support for establishing Centers of Excellence in emerging fields
- Capacity Building:
- Faculty development programs, research methodology workshops, and IPR seminars
- Collaboration with research institutions and industries for mentorship and joint projects
Research Ethics & Integrity:
- All research at Horizon College must adhere to strict ethical standards
- Plagiarism is strictly prohibited and all submissions are subject to originality checks
- Proper citation, transparency in data usage, and responsible authorship are mandatory
Monitoring & Review:
Policy is reviewed every two years or as per academic council recommendations
Research projects are periodically reviewed by the R&D Committee
Annual R&D reports are submitted to the IQAC and shared with stakeholders
